I’m constantly working to improve my technical skills and knowledge. I understand the importance of formal qualifications and certification in the industry, a lot of the training I’ve done, specifically the Red Hat training, are the training courses to prepare for Red Hat certifications, although I’m not actually certified by any vendor.
The way I learn best is not by craming or trying to memorise exam criteria. In fact, usually formal curriculum frustrates me and the pressure to sit in an exam and remember specific commands for 2-3 hours or more is less than appealing.
I learn best by studying the material, both video and books (usually more than once) and working alongside the training in either the lab environments or my own homelab. I like to follow my interests, explore and get hands-on, then once I understand something I try to build things on my own and occasionally write about it here.
The training is what I’m interested in. The skills and knowledge will last me a lifetime, not a certification that might only be valid for a few years.
I’m a professional Linux Admin and programmer, my current job involves managing hundreds of Linux servers. My previous job had me building and maintaining Linux servers in the Cloud and building commercial Web Applications. I’ve been using Linux and writing code for years both personally and professionally, but I still have a homelab environment for practising and experimenting.
That’s what this website is. A reflection of what I’m interested in, and what I’m working on. I write the articles as I’m building things for myself to strengthen my own understanding, and hopefully maybe help out others in the process if anyone happens to ever stumble upon this website. But even that’s not really the point.
